About

Profile

I'm David Alonso (David7ce), a software developer with the web as my base. I build apps for the web, mobile, desktop and terminal with simple, pleasant interfaces, and I like taking care of the whole product: design, code, data and deployment. I trained with a higher-level degree in web application development.

I prefer apps with few dependencies and no external server; when a database is needed, I use TypeScript with PostgreSQL or SQLite. For websites that other people manage, I work with WordPress, Joomla and EmDash, an open-source CMS built on Astro, to which I have adapted apps. For native apps I choose Rust or Dart (or Kotlin) for their performance and cross-platform reach. I use AI as a tool, and I take care of the design, the architecture and the review.

I worked on developing a web data platform for the Cabildo de Tenerife, and I keep open projects such as Interneto, CompuWiki and Universal Map-Time Engine. I'm looking for a job and I also freelance on projects I can take from start to finish. I speak native Spanish and B2 English.

My Vision

I want to build apps that are as universal as possible, open source and backed by a good team: what I define as good software. Public code is transparent and auditable, and lets people avoid depending on closed proprietary software.

I do not think everything should be free: when the product is free, the user often is the product. Software should be maintained and compensated in some way (payment, donations, cryptocurrencies, grants), and I have nothing against one-time payments or subscriptions. I believe that, with enough maturity of free software, a person could live without proprietary software and have an equally good experience, with some trade-offs, as long as it is possible to verify that the published code is what actually runs (reproducible builds, signatures, community review).

Projects I Maintain

The longer-running projects I keep working on.

  • Arksys OS: An Arch-based Linux with KDE: an ArchISO profile, a Calamares installer setup and post-install scripts.
  • CompuWiki: A documentation wiki made with Obsidian and Quartz.
  • Interneto Project: A web directory of internet links, with a blog and a package-installer generator.
  • MediaHub Org: A GitHub organization for media apps, such as TV Multiview and PlayTorrioMov.
  • Obsidian PKM Vault: Categorized knowledge vaults for Obsidian, plus an awesome-list with over 500 GitHub stars.
  • WikiTerra: A cosmology wiki made with Obsidian and the Digital Garden plugin.

Interests and Direction

My interests have grown beyond web development towards:

  • Systems and computer architecture
  • Cross-platform apps with Rust and Dart
  • Linux and free and open-source software
  • AI, developer tooling, APIs and integrations (MCP)

Outside of software I am interested in electronics, physics, technical investigation and teaching. I approach everything with curiosity, a philosophical mindset and a holistic, integrating vision.

These describe where my curiosity is heading. For what I have actually built, see the projects; for what I write while learning, see the blog.

Technologies

Technologies I have used in my studies and projects. This is not a proficiency ranking.

  • Programming: Bash, C#, Java, JavaScript, PHP, Python
  • Programming (AI-assisted): Dart, Rust, TypeScript
  • Markup: HTML, LaTeX, Markdown, XML, YAML
  • Styling: Bootstrap, CSS, Sass, Tailwind CSS
  • Databases: MariaDB, PostgreSQL, T-SQL
  • Web Frameworks: Angular, ASP.NET Core, Astro, React
  • CMS: EmDash, Joomla, WordPress
  • Web Servers & Cloud Platforms: Firebase, GitHub, Supabase, Vercel
  • Environment: Arch Linux, Git, VS Code, Windows 11
  • AI Coding Assistants: Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode

The Stack page lists the tools I use in more detail.
